Live A Live Switch remake sales have crossed the 500k mark, according to producer Takashi Tokita. The milestone is a pretty encouraging number if you're hoping for more obscure JRPG ephemera to be remade and brought to the West in the near future.

This news comes via a live stream held by Square Enix (which is entirely in Japanese, so the news also comes via Genki on Twitter). In the stream, Live A Live producer Takashi Tokita announces that the game has managed to cross the 500,000 sales barrier, a figure which includes both physical units shipped and digital sales on the Nintendo eShop.

It's impossible to state exactly why the game has done so well, but fan hype for a long-untranslated cult classic is surely part of Live A Live's appeal. Add to that the fact that it's a full remake in the trademarked HD-2D style used by games like Triangle Strategy and Octopath Traveler (not to mention the upcoming Dragon Quest 3 remake) and you've got what appears to be a recipe for success.

Live A Live is a cult classic JRPG that was only ever released in Japan in its original form. It's considered a hugely influential classic, bearing similarities to games like Chrono Trigger and inspiring Toby Fox in creating the legendary track "Megalovania". The remake sees the return of several staffers involved in the original game's creation and once again revolves around several protagonists from disparate periods of history who may or may not have a connecting thread uniting them.
